During my spring break I was notified by authorities that the organization that I created 5 years ago was being forced to relocate. Backyard Kamikaze Wrestling no longer inhabited the back field of Bethlehem Central Middle School. No biggie, we’ll move. I thought that was the end of it. About a week later however the media started to jump all over this. Now i’ll get into everything that was said in a little bit but I truly felt appalled and abandoned by the field of communications. It’s their job to be biased and to lack information? Last time I checked that wasn’t part of it…or maybe I’m just crazy and misinformed. Is that the case? Anyways I and everyone involved in the organization were really just ripped apart with a lot of false and one sided information. I’m going to include some news stories:

It just made me really resent the field i plan on going into, and I know that this is more on the journalism side of things its kinda disturbing. It was kind of a grim reality that the media isn’t really there for me at all, and in my case specifically to break me down personally…

So we had to make new videos for web based production class and post them on our blogs. My video is about the theme of abandonment and i try to show how a person just slips away and their feelings get worse and worse until theres just nothing more. The poem in the video is called “abandonment” by Raven Aurora Callahan.

I’m sure everyone’s heard about the NFL players that have gone missing on a boating trip. If you have not you should read this news story:

The support for these guys is phenomenal. Absolutely nobody is abandoning these guys and giving up it’s crazy.

“We have never lost hope,” Newbill said. “We have total faith that (he) will be coming home.”

I wonder if these guys were normal everyday people and weren’t professional football players would they get the same support and news coverage…

I remembered at the beginning of the semester Derek had us naming video sites and I forgot to mention one of my favorites. I found funny or die sometime last year and it has some hillarious stuff on it.

I suggest checking it out, its basically a collection of comedic videos for people who have never heard of it. The videos are either rated “funny” or “die.” One of my favorite little producers on here is Jerry’s House with the username JokeMeOff. If you want a good laugh check it out.

I actually got this idea the other day when I was watching sportscenter. Both Michael Phelps and Alex Rodriguez had been featured in stories about their current situations. Michael Phelps had been caught in a picture smoking weed and A-Rod taking steroids from 2001 to 2003. I’m not really a big fan of either guy so I didn’t care too much at first. Then I started to think about their situation and how much there lives will change. Both of these men are probably in or around the pinnacle of their careers and are popular beyond belief. Now all of a sudden people hate them, people have lost respect for them. Fans are abandoning their heroes and their favorites, and in turn fans feel like the players and their heroes have abandoned them.

Alright so today I had the idea of looking into the abandonment a person feels before they commit the act of suicide and not just the abandonment felt by others after. I remembered the post secrets site that Derek showed in class and it made me try and find maybe a place where people could post their feelings about depression and suicide. I came across this site:

A lot of the things I read through were scary. It’s hard to imagine how lonely and abandoned by this world people can feel but they do. I don’t think many people are able to realize how other people actually feel until its too late.

The theme that I decided upon as my focus was abandonment. This isn’t really what I had thought about choosing at first because too me it just seems the most depressing. After some thought though I feel like I know this subject the best and could work well with it. I’ll mention my best friend who left me junior year of high school. To me there were a lot of feelings rushing through my body after this happened, but abandoned unfortunately was one of them. I want to know why he and others just like him felt so abandoned in this world that things like this actually happen.

Yea this is kinda just a test post to get used to this thing, i’m going to post another one after this trying to pertain more to class. I think if I was to actually write a blog of my own outside of class it would be about wrestling. Just something I was thinking about. I’m going to see if I can add a video of one of my backyard matches for fun, its fun to watch and maybe people will get a kick out of it.
